LUNCH WITH BOOKS: Wheeling 250 - City Government

September 03, 2019

LUNCH WITH BOOKS: Wheeling 250 - City Government

A Dual City Council. A whipping post, a pillory, and a ducking chair. An Ordinance to "Prevent Certain Improper Practices Therein Specified," such as kite-flying and hoop-rolling. From the early leaders of Wheeling following Ebenezer Zane's 1769 tomahawk rights laying claim to the area, to the 1806 founding of the Town of Wheeling, to the 1836 transition to the City of Wheeling, Erin Rothenbuehler will discuss changes in and forgotten facts about governing bodies and politics of Wheeling.
