October is West Virginia Archives Month!

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC) is celebrating with the launch of a new website on October 1.

ArchivingWestVirginia.org will include an online directory of archival institutions and collections, as well as a blog about adventures in archives, and a calendar of Archives-related events being held throughout the state in October in honor of Archives Month.

Here in the Wheeling area, the Archives of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, the Museums of Oglebay Institute, the Northeast Document Conservation Center, the Ohio County Public Library Archives & Special Collections, and the Wheeling National Heritage Area have partnered to bring you two opportunities to learn more about local archival efforts and collections.

Historic Wheeling Postcards and a Postcard Swap!

Then on October 25 at 7 PM in the Ohio County Public Library Auditorium, Kelsy Traeger, Curator for the Museums of Oglebay Institute will discuss the Ellen Dunable Postcard Collection. This large 40-binder collection includes postcards on a variety of Wheeling and Wheeling area subjects and is a valuable resource for researchers interested in our region.

Erin Rothenbuehler and Sean Duffy, Archives Coordinators at the Ohio County Public Library, will then discuss Real Photo Postcards (RPPCs) and highlight some of the library’s postcard collection. The presentations will be followed by a postcard swap! You are invited to bring your duplicate Wheeling and Wheeling-Area postcards to trade with other collectors. Fill in the gaps in your postcard collection the old-fashioned way!
