Join us for our second annual "Bloomsday," a celebration of all things James Joyce.
Our focus this year will be on Joyce's view of women as reflected in his various female characters.
As part of the festivities, at 10:30 AM as our first event, screen the film based on the James Joyce short story, "The Dead.".
"The Dead," stars Angelica Houston as Gretta Conroy, a female Joycean character who will be featured in our noon discussion with Professor Lisa Weihman, Associate Professor of 20th Century British and Irish Literature with a specialization in Irish Studies in the Department of English at WVU.

Our focus this year will be on Joyce's view of women as reflected in his various female characters. Attendees are encouraged to wear period dress (1904-sih) or to dress like a character from any of Joyce's books. There will be prizes for best dressed. Our keynote speaker will be Professor Lisa Weihman, Associate Professor of Irish Literature in the Department of English at WVU. She will discuss Joyce from the female perspective and explore characters like Gretta Conroy as well as Molly and Milly Bloom.
Dr. Lisa Weihman is an Associate Professor of 20th Century British and Irish Literature with a specialization in Irish Studies. She has published work on Dorothy Macardle, Elizabeth Bowen, and Virginia Woolf, and is currently editing a critical edition of Somerville and Ross’s novel The Real Charlotte. In addition to a wide range of undergraduate classes, Prof. Weihman teaches graduate surveys and seminars on Modernism and Mass Culture, Virginia Woolf and Bloomsbury, 20th Century Irish literature, and Contemporary Irish Women Writers.
