Free Screening of WVPB Documentary 'Vietnam: West Virginians Remember'

November 09, 2017
7:00pm - 7:00pm

Free Screening of WVPB Documentary 'Vietnam: West Virginians Remember'

The WVPB documentary tells the story of five West Virginia combat veterans who served in America’s most controversial war and explores the unanswered questions and haunting memories that remain. More than 36,000 Mountain State residents served in Vietnam, and of those 1,182 died. The WVPB documentary is a companion film to The Vietnam War series produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. The one-hour documentary, written and produced by award-winning Executive Producer Suzanne Higgins, features the experiences of 5 West Virginia combat servicemen. Higgins will be at the Library the night of the screening and will talk about the production of the documentary.

Vietnam: West Virginians Remember profiles 5 veterans approximately 50 years after their service, examining their lives before the war, chronicling their experiences of combat, and allowing these men to reflect on the impact of those experiences on the rest of their lives – and the lives of their loved ones.

WVPB: Vietnam - West Virginians Remember, Free Screening, November 9, 2017 at 7 pm, Ohio County Public Library Auditorium

A table will be set up prior to the screening to allow people to participate in the library's Memories in Hand: Veterans Project.

Memories in Hand: Veterans Project

Help us honor the brave men and women who have served our country with “Memories in Hand,” stories through photographs of veterans, by veterans themselves and the people who love them.

If you are veteran, you can bring a photo of yourself in uniform. If you are a friend or relative, just bring a photo of your veteran in uniform. The photo can be from any time period, any war, wartime or peacetime. We will take a photograph of your hands holding the photograph and create an image, like the examples you see here, featuring a brief quote. The images will be added to our online gallery and participants will be sent a digital copy of the Memory in Hand image when it is complete.

Memories in Hand: Veterans Project

To participate, stop by the Library Auditorium anytime tomorrow between 6 and 7 pm before the "Vietnam: West Virginians Remember" screening, or schedule an appointment by calling 304-232-0244 or emailing [email protected].

Vietnam: West Virginians Remember is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
