March is Women’s History Month and Dr. Katharine Antolini, professor of history and gender studies at West Virginia Wesleyan College, will help us observe the 100th anniversary of Congress passing the 19th Amendment recognizing, at long last, the right of women to vote. The amendment was ratified by the state of West Virginia on March 10, 1920 and ratified nationally on August 18 of the same year. Professor Antolini will examine the arguments against women’s suffrage that defeated the state referendum in 1916 and almost prevented its passage in West Virginia four years later.
"Lunch With Books" is the library’s flagship program for adult patrons. These lunchtime programs feature authors, poets, musicians, historians, and more every Tuesday at noon. Complimentary beverages are provided. Bring your lunch, feed your brain!
