PU Livestream: The Struggle for Women's Rights

Week 6 - Class 6: The "Me Too" Movement & Contemporary Issues

This talk will explore the significance of the #metoo movement through the lens of anti-discrimination law. While the movement represented a reckoning of sorts with a widespread problem, how did we get to the point at which women, especially in the workplace, could be victimized and demeaned, often openly, with no practical recourse? This talk will focus on anti-discrimination laws and sex discrimination in the workplace, and the ways in which their shortfalls brought us to the point of needing such a dramatic reckoning.

Ruth Bader GinsbergWe will begin this class with a tribute to Ruth Bader Ginsburg (March 15, 1933-September 18, 2020), the second female U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

Watch this class live, 6:30 pm EST, Thursday, September 24 on the People's University Youtube channel or on the People's University Facebook page. Log into your YouTube or Facebook account during the broadcast and interact with our instructor through the comments box. You could win a "Votes for Women" toiletry bag (see details below)!

Livestream broadcast starts at 6:30 pm EST:

Note: All attendees who ask a relevant question of our instructor toward the end of the program will be entered in a drawing to win a "Women's Suffrage" tea towel from RadicalTeaTowels.com. The striking design on this radical tea towel is taken from a vintage 1908 poster design by Caroline Marsh Watts. It features a girl marching with a bugle, an instrument historically used to relay instructions during battle. The Bugler Girl certainly trumpeted her battle message loud and clear: against injustice, for equality. In addition to the Women's Suffrage Radical Tea Towel and the two free passes to the Heinz History Center, tonight, we will be giving away a Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Radical Tea Towel. All you have to do to be eligible is to watch the program at 6:30 pm, and ask a question of our instructor.
