The Ohio County Public Library staff and board of trustees are saddened by the passing of retired director, Dottie Thomas. Dottie devotedly served the library, patrons, and Wheeling community for twenty-five years.
Amy Kastigar, Ohio County Public Library Director said in a statement, “Anyone who spent any time with Dottie Thomas immediately knew two things: she loved her family and she loved the Ohio County Public Library. She often had a tale to tell about one of her grandchildren, or a book she wanted to share with them.” Kastigar continued, “She fought hard for the library whenever funding became an issue, as it often does in libraries, and she knew the history of OCPL like the back of her hand. Dottie lived a life of public service, and I think we can all agree it was a life well-lived.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dottie’s children, grandchildren, and all of her family and friends. We will remember Dottie’s legacy of leadership and continue to care for the library as she would want us to do.
