Briggs Family Papers, 1792-1985

About this collection:

➤ The collection consists of papers of the Briggs family from 1792-1885. The papers include correspondence, legal and financial records. The correspondence is primarily between members of the Briggs family and documents various travels and daily life. There are three Civil War era letters from W.H. Abercrombie, a soldier in Company C, 12th Regiment, Virginia Infantry, to his sister Elizabeth. It is unclear how these individuals are related to the Briggs family. Legal records include land deeds and estate records. The majority of the collection consists of receipts that document the financial dealings of Isaac Briggs and his son, John Briggs. Receipts include personal and property tax receipts, receipts for tutoring and schooling, and receipts for goods and other items.
