Schreiber Family Papers

About this collection:

➤ Gregory Joseph (G.J.) Schreiber was born on April 27, 1890, son of Maurice and Elizabeth Schlag Schreiber. He married Emilia Miller (sometimes recorded as Amelia Mueller) (1890-1928) and the couple had four children, Mary Virginia (1915-2009), Helen (1917-2011), Ronin Gregory (1918-????) and Thomas Edwin (1920-1991). The family lived in Central Wheeling on 2127 Chapline St and operated a grocery store at the same address. The Schreibers were active in the St. Alphonsus Church. G.J. Emilia Schreiber died on November 6, 1928 and Gregory Joseph died on March 6, 1934. Ronin Schreiber became a friar in the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin (O.F.M. Cap.). Daughters Mary Virginia and Helen moved to California to 1960.

The Schreiber family papers consist of correspondence, genealogy information, memorial cards, and photographs related to the Schreiber, Mueller, Emmereth families. Of particular note are the photographs, which include images of family members and events, the Central Wheeling neighborhood and Table Rock. There are also a series of WWI related photographs from an unknown relative who served in the war. The collection also includes a substantial amount of early 20th century cabinet card photography from various photographs studios in Wheeling.
