A giant tree took root in the Ohio County Public Library Children's Department on Thursday, June 2, 2022. The friendly tree was safely installed by the carpenters of Cattrell Co., Inc. and United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 186 & 432.
The tree features larger-than-life leaves which shadow a campfire rug for children to sit on during activities, such as Story Time. The tree's base features storage for books, toys, or other items for activities in the future. The trunk of the tree is made up of shelves that house books for the departments new OCPL Kids! Book Lending Program. Finally, seating is available for Story Time or other reading on the bench at the tree's base or on the nearby cushioned tree stump.
Books stored in the trunk of the tree will be part of the department's new OCPL Kids! Book Lending Program. A sticker on these books indicate that they're part of the program and can be borrowed without a library card on the "honor system." A similar program is available for adults at the Ohio County Public Library and encourages reading, regardless of library card status. The tree will be stocked with similar books as the department, Ages Birth-12.
Story Time will resume on on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 beneath the "branches" of the new tree. Hurry and the Monarchs will be the featured book at Story Time on Tuesday, June 7th and Wednesday, June, 8, 2022. For more information on upcoming OCPL Kids! Programming, view the OCPL Calendar.
