Designated as areas of historic or architectural significant, the the National Register of Historic Places identifies historic districts as part of the United States Department of Interior's National Park Service program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archaeological resources. Currently, in addition to over thirty individual properties, eleven historic districts (see below) have been recognized in Wheeling.
OCPL appreciates the generosity and thoughtfulness of its many patrons in donating books, historical materials, and other library materials to the Library. Because of the overwhelming number of items donated, the limited amount of staff time to handle these donations, and limited space to house the donated materials, OCPL must restrict the donations accepted.
